About the Artwork
"Morning Serenity" is a vibrant exploration of light and texture, capturing the quiet energy of a new day. At its heart sits a spirited bouquet of white narcissus, gathered in a rustic, saturated pink enamel jug. Below, the composition is anchored by a seasonal harvest—halved green and golden fruits that mirror the luminous centers of the blooms above.
This piece masterfully balances floral delicacy with the profound material richness of Elena Duarte’s signature impasto style. Each petal is sculpted through thick, gestural strokes, giving the flowers a nearly three-dimensional, sculptural presence. As ambient light shifts across the room, the raised ridges of the oil paint catch the rays at different angles, creating a dynamic surface that feels alive and in motion.
The color palette is both fresh and sophisticated: the crisp whites and vivid ochre of the flowers are set against a cool, ethereal blue backdrop, creating a striking contrast with the warmth of the container and fruit. This repetition of color—from the orange flower centers to the ripened fruit at the base—creates a cohesive harmony that draws the eye throughout the entire canvas.
Measuring a generous 100 × 100 cm, "Morning Serenity" functions as a commanding focal point. It is an investment in cheerful elegance, designed to breathe texture, color, and a sense of enduring calm into any modern interior space.
Artist Note
This painting began with an interest in combining florals and fruit in a way that felt fresh, immediate, and full of life.
I was drawn to the brightness of daffodils—their open forms, their warmth at the center, and the way they naturally create movement when gathered together. Placing them in a vivid pink vessel allowed the composition to feel playful yet balanced, while the citrus at the base introduced another note of brightness and familiarity.
Throughout the process, I focused on building the flowers with confident, textured marks so they would feel animated and tactile rather than delicate or overly polished. I wanted the paint itself to carry part of the energy of the arrangement. At the same time, I kept the background simple so the color relationships and forms could remain clear.
The result is a work that holds both joy and stillness—something expressive, luminous, and grounded in the beauty of ordinary objects brought together with intention.
