“Soft Bloom” focuses on the presence of a single flower rendered through sculptural impasto. Rather than building a bouquet, the composition centers attention on one bloom, allowing form, texture, and color to carry the entire visual weight.

The petals are constructed through directional palette knife strokes, creating layered ridges that catch light differently as the viewer moves. This physical texture replaces traditional shading, allowing the painting to develop depth through surface rather than illusion.

The restrained background creates space around the bloom, emphasizing scale and presence while maintaining visual calm. The composition balances softness in the petals with structural clarity in the arrangement.

At 100 × 100 cm, the work functions as a singular focal piece designed to hold space within an interior.

Artist Note

This painting began with the intention of slowing down the floral form.

Instead of building a full arrangement, I focused on a single bloom and allowed the surface to develop gradually through layered palette knife strokes. The thickness of the paint became part of the composition, creating shifts of light and shadow as the texture formed.

Throughout the process, I was interested in preserving softness while maintaining structure. Each petal was built deliberately, allowing the material itself to define the edges and movement of the flower.

The final piece reflects that balance between intimacy and presence — a quiet study of form expressed through physical paint.
