About the Artwork
“Stillness with Citrus” presents a lively still life composition centered on a bouquet of white daffodils gathered in a pink enamel-style jug, accompanied by sliced citrus and green fruit below. The painting balances floral delicacy with the material richness of impasto, allowing the arrangement to feel both expressive and structured.
Each flower is developed through thick, gestural application, giving the petals a sculptural presence across the canvas. The raised paint catches light at different angles, creating shifts in texture and emphasis throughout the bouquet. This dimensional surface gives the work a sense of motion, while the composition itself remains grounded through the stable placement of the vessel and fruit.
The contrast between the crisp whites of the blooms, the vivid orange centers, the cool pale blue background, and the saturated pink of the container creates a fresh and energetic palette. Citrus elements at the base introduce warmth and repetition of color, helping connect the lower portion of the painting to the floral forms above.
At 100 × 100 cm, the piece functions as a bright focal work—bringing texture, color, and a sense of cheerful elegance into an interior space.
Artist Note
This painting began with an interest in combining florals and fruit in a way that felt fresh, immediate, and full of life.
I was drawn to the brightness of daffodils—their open forms, their warmth at the center, and the way they naturally create movement when gathered together. Placing them in a vivid pink vessel allowed the composition to feel playful yet balanced, while the citrus at the base introduced another note of brightness and familiarity.
Throughout the process, I focused on building the flowers with confident, textured marks so they would feel animated and tactile rather than delicate or overly polished. I wanted the paint itself to carry part of the energy of the arrangement. At the same time, I kept the background simple so the color relationships and forms could remain clear.
The result is a work that holds both joy and stillness—something expressive, luminous, and grounded in the beauty of ordinary objects brought together with intention.
